Groovin the Moo 2023: Bunbury Photos + Summary
While many modern-day festivals feel commercialized, Groovin the Moo has remained community-driven, creating unforgettable festival experiences for attendees. And this year did not disappoint. We were fortunate to cover GTM’s final leg of its 2023 tour in Bunbury, Western Australia. With heavy overcast straight from the get-go, there definitely was a concern for rain, especially with our camera gear. The weather, however, did not seem to bother festival goers; ear-to-ear smiles extending from the first act, WA natives, South Summit to Fatboy Slim’s attention-consuming set closing out the festival. As a North American-based publication, it was really special to see all of the support for each of the acts, many of which call Australia home. The festival itself was very well organized, with clear alcohol-permitted sections, a large variety of food trucks and even a tent dedicated to dancing in led lights. It was clear that Groovin the Moo is not your regular festival, with the majority of fans enjoying the vibes brought through music rather than worrying about getting to the front of the mosh pit; a scene unfortunately all too common in North America. From international acts such as Denzel Curry and Fatboy Slim to local icons including the Hilltop Hoods (a late addition to this tour), Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers and Amy Shark, the range in genres did not take away from the energy of the festival. Fatboy Slim also absolutely smashed his closing set at GTM this year. It’s always a sign of a good performer when the crowd has such a wide range in age, yet, everyone is on their feet singing or dancing along. Groovin the Moo sure knows how to put together a well-rounded lineup and we can’t wait to see what they do next year. Yves Tumor at HISTORY | Photo Gallery
On May 9th, Yves Tumor stormed History in Toronto with their distinct blend of glam rock, post-punk and industrial grunge as part of the “To Spite or Not to Spite” North American tour. They hyped up the ocean of fans with songs like “God is a Circle”, “Gospel for a New Century ‘ and “Heaven Surrounds Us Like a Hood”. Their live rendition of “Operator” was a favourite as the entire audience erupted with a chorus of “Be aggressive!” on top of the driving bass stylings of bassist Gina Ramirez.
